Another study of Medicare claims found that in places with more fragmentation, patients use healthcare services about 10% more. That includes more hospital visits and trips to emergency rooms, which are expensive. Also, patients see specialists more often than their primary care doctors in these areas. This can lower the chance of steady care and increases resource use without better health results.<\/p>\n
At the same time, areas with fragmented care often use more useful services like vaccines and proper treatment for chronic diseases like diabetes. This means fragmented care does not stop good care but makes it harder to balance all healthcare services well.<\/p>\n
